About CinéBistro at the Liberty Center
CinéBistro is the crown jewel of the Liberty Center, an impressive outdoor, upscale mall in Liberty Township, Ohio.
CinéBistro, a Cobb Movie Theatre experience, offers a truly innovative dining and movie experience. The unique venues are built specifically with the discerning movie-going and dining customer in mind. Each location features an upscale, yet inviting and comfortable atmosphere in which to dine while watching a major motion picture.
CinéBistro is located in a few, select markets making it a favorite for the sophisticated movie-goer.
With opening night only six days away, CinéBistro executive staff faced a very tight deadline to find a solar control solution for 10 floor-to-ceiling, south-facing windows. The windows, each measuring 9’x30′ (221 square feet/shade), allowed unacceptable levels of solar glare into the restaurant/bar space.
The Solar Control Challenge
CinéBistro determined that without the proper solar control solution, the glare levels would cause an uncomfortable environment for theatre guests as well as cause large shadows that muted the facility’s beautiful interior decor. In the summer months, the uncovered windows would allow unacceptable heat levels which would drive up energy costs required to keep guests comfortable.
Products Used
Control:
– All individual shades were on clutch rollers with 24 lbs. of lift
– All dual shades utilized specialized CS clutch system.
– All clutch rollers used #10 stainless steel bead chain
Fabric:
– All woven mesh used in project was Mermet E Screen (E 7505) 5% openness in white/pearl #0207
– All room-darkening fabric was Mermet Avila in Pearl #0007
Fascia:
– All fascia made from anodized aluminum
IWS Solutions
Illinois Window Shade Company designed a solar shade system that successfully manages the solar glare transmittance at CinéBistro. The Illinois Window Shade Company solution specifically addresses CinéBistro’s needs by providing a motorized shade system that promotes a comfortable and energy efficient environment.
A total of 10 Illinois Window Shade Company Motorized Shade Systems were installed in the restaurant space. The Motorized Shade Systems were equipped with a woven mesh shade (Phifer Sheerweave 2500 transparent fabric with 1% openness rate) and driven by Intelligent Line Technology (ILT 3 RS485) motors.
The woven mesh shade thoroughly reflects solar heat, allowing internal building controls to more efficiently regulate temperature levels throughout the facility. The shade allows a high level of natural light into the room, reducing dependence on artificial light and providing a much more comfortable, visually-appealing environment for CinéBistro guests.
The ILT motorization allows staff to control the very large and out-of-reach shades with the touch of a remote control button. The quiet motors also allow facility staff to operate the shades without disrupting normal business operations.
Results
The solar shade solution at CinéBistro looks fantastic, is easy for staff to operate and produces measurable results with respect to the light and heat levels in the facility.
The Phifer Sheerweave fabric effectively reflects solar heat gain while maximizing available natural light and reducing dependence on artificial light. The ILT motorization controls offer a simple, comprehensive means to control the shade.

SOLAR SHADE COMPONENTRY
The Fabric
The shades are fitted with Phifer Sheerweave 2500 transparent fabric with 1% openness rate in the color Oyster/Pearl Gray. The light-colored fabric does an excellent job of reflecting solar heat gain while transmitting higher levels of daylight into the interior space while maintaining view through. The 1% openness rate allows the maximum amount of solar heat, glare and UV protection for this particular style of fabric.
The Controls
Intelligent Line Technology (ILT 3 RS485) motors are used to drive the shades. The motors are seated into 3.25 inch tubes mounted from extension brackets that prevent the shade fabric from rubbing against the aluminum mullions. The motors are controlled using two 12-port hubs, one 5-port hub, 1 bus power and an 8-button Animeo IP switch.The switch allows for an upper, lower and mid limits per the customer.
