HBK Engineering, LLC, founded in 1998, is a fully licensed professional engineering design firm headquartered in downtown Chicago providing civil, environmental, structural, electrical, subsurface utility, construction support services and permitting. HBK has built a reputation for outstanding, accurate service in extremely time-sensitive environments.
The solar control challenge
HBK needed a variety of solar control systems for their new South Loop offices. The facility design includes private offices and a modern, open office design allowing high levels of daylight throughout the interior space.
The solution
Illinois Window Shade Company provided a mix of SmoothMove® manual roller shades, PowerMove® motorized roller shades and PowerMove® motorized skylight shades to address the glare and heat issues throughout the offices.
The shades were fitted with KOOLBLACK™ high performance fabric, which allows occupants to enjoy the view-through benefits inherent in dark-colored fabrics but avoid the heat transmission issues that are typical with dark fabrics.
Results
The solar shade solution effectively manages glare and heat transmission and looks great, fitting in with the contemporary interior design.
