The Muhammad University is a religious educational institution. Its auditorium includes nine floor-to-ceiling, west-facing windows each measuring 6' × 22'.

The solar control challenge

The windows allow very high levels of solar heat and glare throughout the day. Additionally, just outside the windows is a busy parking lot. Both the solar and privacy challenges proved to be disruptive during school assemblies and special events.

Muhammad University needed to control privacy levels as well as solar levels during private and sacred ceremonies, and staff needed a motorized control solution to effectively operate the large shades before, during and after auditorium events.

The solution

A total of nine motorized roller shades, each measuring 6' × 22', were placed in the auditorium windows and fitted with NoLite Fiberglass room darkening fabric in Oyster — a durable, budget-friendly fabric that provides 100% solar UV, heat and glare blockage.

The shades are controlled by radio transmitted signals. A hand-held remote control and a wall switch were included in the design, offering a quick, convenient and effective means to operate the large shades.

Results

The solar control solution provides the school with an effective and convenient means of controlling solar glare and heat.

At the touch of a button, faculty are able to establish a comfortable and suitable environment for school assemblies, special events and religious ceremonies.
