In Chicago's South Loop neighborhood, the Regus South Loop business center at 1135 S. Delano Court East brings office space to the city's central business district. The center's sleek modern design and bright colors create a refreshing work environment.

The solar control challenge

This newly renovated office space needed a window treatment that would provide excellent protection from the sun while preserving the view of the Roosevelt Collection. Contractors were concerned about UV rays damaging office furniture, high amounts of glare hindering work flow, and extreme heat causing discomfort for staff.

Temporary privacy for the interior window of the conference room was also a concern. This room was completely made of glass for aesthetic purposes, but a shade was needed to provide adequate privacy for confidential meetings.

The solution

A total of 27 clutch operated shade systems were professionally installed on windows throughout the office space. The clutch roller shade is a smooth, manually operated system; a chain hanging at a consistent level precisely positions the shade to the user's liking.

Rollease R24 clutches were used with each shade. This clutch, designed for use with large and heavy shades, is ideal for commercial applications and is the most reliable time-tested clutch in the industry.

Of the 27 shade systems installed, 26 were dressed with Mermet E-Screen fabric in White/White with a 3% openness factor. The last shade system was dressed with Phifer SW4400 fabric in Alabaster, which combines the durability of vinyl coated polyester with green PVC technology.

To completely conceal the components, 4" square fascia was used in Anodized Aluminum. IWS collaborated with ARCO/Murray Construction to deliver the system.

Results

The office space is now protected from UV and glare while retaining its view, and the conference room has privacy on demand for confidential meetings.
