The solar control challenge
The Terry Group office has a southeast exposure on the 28th floor at One Prudential Plaza, a 41-story building in downtown Chicago. Due to its height and orientation, the office has little protection from intense solar energy throughout the daytime hours.
Without the proper solar control solution, the glare and heat levels would be a nuisance for staff and clients.
The solution
Architecture and design firm GastingerWalker& specified SmoothMove® manual roller shades as the solar control solution throughout the interior space.
The clutch operated shades are fitted with a light-colored, transparent solar control fabric with 3% openness. The fabric effectively reduces solar heat and glare levels while still maintaining the stunning views of downtown Chicago.
Results
Glare and heat are controlled across a full-height southeast exposure without giving up the downtown Chicago views that make the space.
